Welcome VAAS Babies!

Have you seen students carrying around bags of flour that are dressed with baby clothes? That's because it's BABY TIME!

For a whole week, the students are supposed to take care of the flour bag as if it were a real baby. Some students, like James Manalo, even went as far as choosing to have twins.

They must keep a log of the its feeding time, diaper changes, baths, and sleeping schedule. But the most important rule is too make sure the baby (flour bag) does not get destroyed!

Keep tuned for our next post on how many babies made it through the weeks!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day from the Viper Blog Squad!

Good job, vipers!

This year's Advisory Door Decorating Contest was a huge success! All the doors were creative and artistic, but there could only be one winner. And the winner is ... Room 314: Mr. Valbuena and his advisory!

They decorated their door with a theme from Monsters Inc. They hung pictures of themselves with doors drawn on the other side, which was very unique!

Congratulations, room 314!

kindness week challenge

Here at VAAS, we celebrated Kindness Week Challenge and we had an amazing turnout!

We began the week with a Spirit Day for each day of the week and for the final day, everyone in the school gathered for a group photo and formed a giant peace sign to show our unity and kindness as a school and community.

We got to interview Ms. Brauer who organized the event. Ms Brauer is an academic counselor here at VAAS.

Q: What does Kindness Week mean to you?

A: It's a time where all of the students and staff here at VAAS perform random acts of kindness. Although we are always supposed to be kind, I feel that by putting together a week of kindness, it brings people, classes, and staff members together.

Q: How do you think the Kindness week challenge has impacted the school?

A: I have seen students be kinder to one another and I have had teachers email me that some of the activities, such as the door decorating contest, has brought their classes closer together.

Q: How do you think Kindness Week went and will it be happening again next year?

A: I think it went well for being the the first year. I'm hoping to have another one next year as an annual tradition. There's a lot of planning and time that goes into it, but it's worth it at the end.

Q: What was your favorite Spirit Day during Kindness week?

A: My favorite was '80s Day and Around the World Day because you get to see different cultures and all of the diversity of the school. It also brings a sense of being proud of your roots and where your parents come from.

Winter Formal

Winter Formal is two weeks away. Don't know what to do this weekend? I have an idea ... go out and start looking for your winter formal outfit because once the week of the dance comes around, you only have a few days left!

Requirements:

  • You must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (check for eligibility with Ms Carrillo or your Counselor)
  • Must be present on day of event
  • In good standing (no do-overs)

Have you met those requirements? Good!

When? December 9th

Where? Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church

When do tickets go on sale? December 1st-8th

Price? $45

Don't forget to get into the VAAS spirit next week!

Senior Sunset

Senior Sunset was the first senior event of the year and it was a blast. It was fun hanging out, eating, and enjoying our time together. We played an intense game of musical chairs and participated in a selfie scavenger hunt! We danced to songs like “The Cha-Cha Slide” and “El Caballo Dorado” while others played volleyball. Everyone had so much fun and it was a VAASome start to an amazing senior year!

SENIOR SUNSET on Friday, September 16!!!

Seniors, mark your calendars for our first event this year!

Where? On top of the parking lot.

When? 5:30-8pm

Don't forget to bring your favorite blankets and/or chairs, snacks, and your camera to remember this moment with your friends!
